Genesis and then G2, the codification of a now seemingly minor shift in mainstream bicycle geometry thinking that started the industry wide march to longer Reach numbers, shorter stems, and relatively shorter rear-centres that most of us mountain bike on today. Couple that with #1FG drivetrains and you have the Rig, an infamous production single-speed rig from decades past. This was a Fisher model from around 2K5 to 2K10 and then persisted as a Trek ‘Gary Fisher Collection’ bike after that. From XC to ATB, Marc’s 2008 Rig lives in Japan these days, but has been his since 2007, when he purchased it new at Cranky’s Bike Shop in Edmonton.
Marc’s written a couple of words about his 18-ish-year-old rig on his site, The Japan Bike, and I’d recommend having a peruse when the mood strikes you. In the meantime, whether you’ve written about it elsewhere, the MEATengines haikuniverse is the debut, new or used, mountain, groad, ATB, etc., if you have a one-speed bike and would like to share it, fire me a haiku and a photo:
You write a Haiku

Then, I say thank you

Single speed silence
Frogs croaking, light breeze, warm sun
Next adventure start
