I don’t have a tonne of stuff to say for Day 5 of ‘Seven Days With Jeff’ as I’ve also linked to some of the various hub teardowns we have performed. Other than the night we opened a Bontrager at Beere Brewing all these teardowns have taken place at the various incarnations of Bikeroom.

First came the True Precision Stealth which was a fascinating combination of silence, instantaneous engagement, and precision manufacturing. To date, it’s still second only to Chris King in terms of our sheer interest in opening it. On another level. Actually, both the P321 hubs and Industry Nine’s .52° Hydra drew a lot of interest as well. We’ve also done SRAM, Reynolds/Industry Nine Torch, Race Face Turbine & Aeffect and probably others. We’ll have more interesting hub collaborations in the future I hope. 

I’ve learned a bunch from Jeff as part of doing these teardowns and it’s mainly been confidence in my skills on the tools when it comes to opening up hubs, cleaning the lubing drive systems, and replacing bearings. By sheer volume, our hub teardowns are second only to dropper posts and they certainly invite a lot more questions and comments in the articles themselves and they are the second most enjoyable to do after brakes. 

I don’t see myself ever reviewing a wheel without taking the hub apart to talk about the guts and I find, personally, that hub or wheel reviews that don’t disassemble the main component feel incomplete. Thanks for that Jeff!
