Short Winter Rides

By: The Clairebarian

One day this winter I went for an after school ride in the snow with my Papa. We pulled up, and then I put on my armour, shoes, vest, gloves, helmet, and hip pack. Papa was taking our bikes off the rack. I started biking up the little path past the tennis courts and up to the trail. I rode calmly up the For The Kids climb. It turns into the St. Mary’s trail and then the Skid Road Connector.

I thought that we would be able to go to the 3rd tranche of the No Quarter Climb, but there was too much snow. We looked up to see if there were any tracks on the down part of the upper section of Dreamweaver and there were no tracks at all, not even foot or dog prints. Papa went up to the two ladders and slid down for first tracks while I was taking pictures.

We turned around to ride down the bottom sections of Dreamweaver. I put my seat down, and my feet on my pedals to go, and that is when I remembered that Papa had said to wait at the little bridge. He wanted to take a picture of me riding across the bridge and around the corner in the beautiful sunset. He snapped a couple of photos and we kept on going. At the bottom of the second section of Dreamweaver, suddenly the snow disappeared. I cleaned the last section smoothly and out we were.

We decided to only do one lap. We were cold and happy. It felt like enough riding. It ended up being a surprisingly fun ride. On the way home all I talked about was writing a piece about short winter rides. Snow, cold, short, and fun. In conclusion, even if the ride is short, the point is to just go into the woods and get some fresh air.
