Today, the cycling world says goodbye to a kind soul and kindred spirit – community builder, artist, hardscrabble humourist & humanist, small business owner, and friend to everyone, Harald Strasser. Better known to most folks as Toxik Harald, and synonymous with his business Toxik Design Lab.
“In his honour, we kindly ask that you celebrate his life not with solemn silence, but with joyful movement — dance, smile, and remember him with love. That’s how he lived, and that’s how he would want to be remembered.” – Mark Donovan on behalf of Harald Strasser
Friends of Harald, this is a small collection of photos, borrowed from various places and people, with attribution where it was obvious, that showcase his spirit. If you have an image that I should add, please fire me an e-mail.
I’ve also included some words, down below the photos, for posterity’s sake, pulled from his social media. If you see some text out in the bikernet, or have a message, that needs to be included here, again, fire me an e-mail.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our brother Harald. After a courageous journey with a terminal illness, he passed away peacefully in his sleep last night.
His strength, humour, and unwavering spirit were a light to all who knew him, and while our hearts are broken, we are grateful that he is now at peace.” – Mark Donovan
“If you are declared a legend while still alive, you must have done a lot of things right in life. For this reason, I would like to declare you a legend, Harald. What you have given to the bike community over the years is enough for several lifetimes. Your warm-hearted and always helpful nature is complemented by your incredible talent for making something unique look simple!
In your final hours and days, you are not alone. We are ALL with you and will walk with you all the way until you reach the top, where your journey ends, but not your time, because legends live forever.” – Daniel Landsberger
“Harald, you’ve lived a very full life, my memories of going back to the Dekerf days, when you were painting away, listening to techno. I’m sure the techno never stopped, nor did your creativity. We hit a new stage as we both melded into the Cruiserbike scene with Rod at the helm. Your show and shine in Richmond, perhaps one of the best times of the year, everyone getting together, you being a great host. Thanks for all you’ve done, the paint jobs, the parties, and overall just being a good guy.” – Greg Klaassen
“To the cool Austrian boy who just moved to town and showed small town Roblin kids just how cool techno music and breakdancing could be, thank you for expanding our world! To the friend I graduated with, thank you for always being kind, and smiley, and a friendly face in the hallway. Thanks for inspiring us with your fashion, and music, and showing us how to exist outside the box. I don’t think you have any idea how you influenced us all. Now, you are inspiring me with your courage, in continuing to do things the Harald way, with fearless resolve, and a sure smile. May we meet again on the other side.” – Alison Barrault Kerchak
“Harald, we will always treasure our artwork that you provided to us over the years. You have left a great legacy behind. Thanks for the neighborly chats, laughs and BBQs over the years. I always enjoyed seeing the projects you created at Toxik. Take care my friend.” – Jay Vonder
“Harald is one of a kind, they dont make them any more special like he is. I just want to sit and bullshit with him about stuff…He knows so much, and it will be a huge loss when his knowing is gone. In my thoughts, always,” – Lou Costa
