Custom For Custom’s Sake

I needed a new piston seal for one of my Cura 4 brake calipers. Actually, that’s not true. I had a new piston seal for one of my Cura 4 brake calipers, what I needed to do is install it. It really is wonderful being able to replace these small parts as needed. So there I am with the brake taken apart in halves ready to pull the piston out when I stop suddenly and put my tools down.

I love wrenching outside on a sunny day.

You see, housekeeping, I had previously tested a Cura 2 brake system. And since it used the same master cylinders as the Cura 4, I purchased a pair of matching black four-piston calipers to upgrade the system. Now those brakes are back to being two-pistons (I love bicycles) for my V1 ATB. And, I had a pair of four-piston calipers sitting around. Things that make you go “hmmm.”

Happy with the results.

Needless to say, I still need to pull that piston out and change the seal, and I have working brakes. But I’m not so gauche as to run one black caliper and one gold caliper when there are alternatives. Needless to say, if I was buying a set of Formula Cura 4 brakes tomorrow I’d consider buying the master cylinders, lines, and calipers all separately. There’s something fun about custom for custom’s sake, no?
