True Temper OX Platinum tube set, a beauty pair of swinging dropouts, and a proper headtube badge, my guess was that Lawrence’s sweet rig was a Black Cat. I was some percentage correct; those are Black Cat dropouts on a fillet brazed Curtlo from 2K10. Doug Curtiss, Curtlo, has been making frames since 1979, mountain bikes since 1981, full time since 1985, and his bikes are full-custom beauties, now built in Winthrop, Washington.
{Winthrop. A history of making single-speeds and full suspension bikes. I’m a little surprised that Curtlo doesn’t have a single-speed full-suspension model.}
In addition to the best-ever XTR V-brake levers, Lawrence is running a Ti-Cycles seatpost, Answer 20/20 carbon bars, White Industries hubs, and rocking the 29+ front tire for suspension. The cork bar plugs and 5-bolt square-taper cranks are also sweet.
Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind frame or your take on an off-the-rack build, if you have a single-speed to share it’s easy:
You write a Haiku
Submit it with a photo
Then, I say thank you
Lawrence on the Curtlo:
Old guy on a bike
Pedal silent through the park
Dance through rocks and roots
